The Devil’s Coach Horse (Ocypus olens) is a rove beetle (in the family Staphylinidae). There are several other species in the same Genus (e.g. Ocypus brunnipes & Ocypus aeneocephalus). They are all large, dark rove beetles with fearsome jaws, although the Devil’s Coach Horse is the largest and the only one with a common name!
